Chris Tate

Christopher G. Tate is a group leader of the Laboratory of Structural Biology of Integral Membrane Proteins at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. Tate and his lab made a great contribution to current understanding of the mechanism of action G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). Using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM they have been able to solve structures of adenosine A2A receptor in the fully active state, rhodopsin, serotonin 5HTIB receptor coupled to heterotrimeric Go, and many others. Additionally, Chris Tate has developed a method of GPCR conformational thermostabilisation and engineered the minimal G-proteins (mini-G proteins) that has been successfully used as ligand in GPCR structural studies.
