Horst Vogel

Horst Vogel graduated from the University of Göttingen, Germany, with a PhD work performed at the Max-Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen. After working at the Max-Planck Institute for Biology in Tübingen, Germany, the Biocentre at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, he was appointed as Professor for Physical Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 1994. In 2019 he was appointed as Distinguished Professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced. Technology / Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT/CAS) where he co-founded the Center for Computer Aided Drug Discovery. He received the 2020 Chinese Government Friendship Award. He is an elected member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) and of the US National Academy of Inventors (NAI). His research concentrates on the structure and function of membrane proteins, published in over 260 scientific articles (h-index 81). Many of his findings have been transferred to applications.
