In 1994 he became professor for biophysical chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) where he still is at the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering. His research concentrates on (i) the structure and function of membrane proteins, and (ii) the development of bioanalytical techniques, published in over 200 scientific articles with ~14,000 citations (h-index 64).
